French Structuralists Roland Barthes and Claude Lévi-Strauss on Japanese Culture

Abstract
Analyses views of these researchers on Japanese culture. They underlined the radical dissimilarity between Japanese culture and cultures of the West or of continental Asia. The author reveals the mechanisms of constructing images of Japan by Roland Barthes and Claude LéviStrauss that were based on visual images of the Japanese culture and translated texts.
